Obituary of Doris E. Gearhart

Doris E. Gearhart A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 2 at 1 pm from Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 West Church Street Eden, NY for Doris E. Gearhart, 95, formerly of Eden and Ocala, Florida, who died March 12, 2012 in Chesterfield, Missouri. She is survived by her son, John (Diane) Gearhart; granddaughters, Susan (Greg) Jobe and Heather (Tim) Davis; great-grandchildren, John and Kyla Davis; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William "Bill" Gearhart, parents, John and Luella Timmerman, sister, Myrtle Cooper, and a great-grandson. Mrs. Gearhart was born in Pike, NY and moved to Eden, where her father owned a grocery store, when she was in high school. For 40 years she lived in Eden and worked there at Vellam's Grocery Store, Miller's Department Store, and the Eden Post Office for 20 years, retiring as assistant postmaster. Doris was an avid bowler while in Eden and an active member of Eden Methodist Church. She was also a member and officer of the Eastern Star. In retirement, as a member of Silver Springs Shores Presbyterian Church in Ocala, she eagerly volunteered to take on many assignments to enrich the lives of others in need. She received an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women for exemplary service to the church. Doris was loved and respected by all who knew her; she will be missed.
