Obituary of John N. Cardarelli

Cardarelli- John N. of Eden, died peacefully at home on October 28, 2012.
Beloved husband of Allison (nee: Richter), devoted father of Jennifer (Ken) Sava and John Cardarelli. Proud grandpa to Griffin Sava. Brother of Mary Lou Scharf, Virginia Suhalla, Barb (Jay) Fritchey, Victoria Fish and Rosemary (Martin) Smardz.
John was in the Cheektowaga Police Department in 1967. Then in 1973 he was hired on as the Eden Police Chief. He was Police Chief of the department until 1988. He left the Eden Police Department and became the Erie County Commissioner of Central Police Service until his retirement in the Fall of 1998. Under his tenure the first County wide 911 system was implemented and the DNA lab was established.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1962 as a Combat Engineer in Germany.
He also was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, serving on the Holy Name Society, the Parish Council and as an Usher.
He served on the Lakeshore Hospital Board of Directors, the Erie County BOCES Board of Directors and two terms as the President of the Eden Chamber of Commerce.
He was a life member and Past President of the Erie County Chiefs of Police, a life member of the New York State Chiefs of Police and a life member of the International Chiefs of Police.
No prior visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at Immaculate Conception Church, Eden at 11:30am.
Burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery with Military Honors.
