Donald D. Cline, 93, of Eden, New York, entered into rest Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born February 2, 1921 in Buffalo, New York. He was the son of the late David and Alice (Doyle) Cline.
He married his devoted wife the former late Ruth Elizabeth Finkbeiner. Don served his country in the Merchant Marines. Since 1955 Don was active in the St. John’s United Church of Christ; now known as St. John’s Community Church. There he was a Past Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher; he sang in the church choir and sat on numerous boards. Don enjoyed volunteering his time when he could. He helped in the fundraising and building of the Eden Town Pool, was a Past President and Board Member for the Eden Emergency Squad and was a past Boy Scouts Leader. He was a member of the Fortune Lodge #788, F & AM.
He enjoyed Round and Square Dancing, sailing and was an avid wine maker and gardener. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his great sense of humor and his singing and playing his mandolin.
He was the devoted husband of late Ruth E. (nee: Finkbeiner);
Loving father of Bruce R. Cline of Buffalo, NY, Steven A. (Audrey) Cline of Dayton, NY, Linda (Tom) Benkelman of Eden, NY and late David D. Cline.
Grandfather of Connie (Peter) Tambacas of Eden, NY, Ellen (Brent) Gregory of Parker, CO, Dan Cline of Buffalo, NY,Heather Cline of Rochester, NY, Jesse (Jenna) Cline of Webster, NY, Marcis (Kristine) Cline of Amherst, NY, Jeremy (Maureen) Cline of Buffalo, NY, Jenna Benkelman of Eden, NY, Daniel Cline of Jersey City and Janine Benkelman of Eden, NY. Great grandfather of Christian, Emma, Jacob, Sam, Dan, Mariah, Joaquin, Xavier and Sofie.
Brother of late Robert (Mary Lou) Cline.
Half brother of Dorothy E. and Winifred.
Family invites friends to call Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the Laing Funeral Home Inc, 2724 W. Church St. Eden.
Funeral service will be 11AM Monday, August 25, 2014 at the St. John’s Community Church, Eden.
