When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 I was really scared and guess who was one of the first persons there for me - Rick of course. Rick came to my house and we talked for hours. He was always putting other people first. Rick and I did the Relay for Life and The Ride for Roswell. We did the 20 mile ride without ever stopping! We had some great times camping at the Nascar races and Darien Lake. WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU RICK!!

Although there are too many memories to put down here, this is the one I'll always remember the most. I had recently purchased a riding lawnmower for my new house on the 5 mile rd. I was not an expert at taking care of anything mechanical. To make a long story short, I didn't check the oil as often as I should of and the engine seizes up. I was complaining about my stupidity to Ellen on the phone, and wondering what I should do next. Later that day,here come Rick and Ellen pulling in my driveway hauling their riding mower (over60 miles). Rick proceeded to mow my lawn for me. When he was done, never a word about me not checking the oil level. I couldn't believe how dumb I had been , and he never said a word. I will never forget that day as long as I live. I will also try and keep Rick's spirit of helping others alive. This story summerizes Rick's life. If someone was in need, he was going to help. For God sake,while his body was full of tumors, he drove a tractor for the farm last Friday laying plastic for the plants. Why? Because "they were short handed and needed help."

May God hold you, your family and those beautiful children in the palms of his hands at this so very difficult time.
Going to Watkins Glenn for the NASCAR race each year was always such a treat. We always thought that weekend was all about racing- but it was so much more than that. Watching our children grow up year to year, catching up on hunting, fishing, and "nursing stories" was what we all thought it was about, but it was more than that. It was about friendships and our love to be just "camping families" for that one weekend a year. Rick was always the first one to help everyone set up their campsite for the weekend and the one to make you eat Eden steamed corn til' ya' burst!! He even perhaps made a Rusty Wallace fan out of all of us..that weekend will never be the same without you. You will forever inspire all of to be kind, caring and compassionate for this thing we call life..

Kerri Inserra and the Sacred Heart of Mary Parish posted a condolence
Nearer, my God to Thee, nearer to Thee!
Even though it be a cross that raiseth me;
Still all my song shall be, Nearer to God to Thee
Nearer my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee.
Deep in thy Sacred Heart, let me abide;
Thou that has't bled for me, Sorrowed and died;
Sweet shall my weeping be, Grief surely leading me Nearer my God, to Thee; Nearer, to Thee.
Friends may depart from me, Night may come down,
Clouds of adversity,
Darkened with frown;
Still through my tears I'll see,
Hope gently leading me, Nearer, my GOD to Thee; Nearer to Thee
And when the goal is won, How like a dream;
In the dim retrospect,
Sorrow will seem.
Sweet will my transport be,
Jesus thy face to see,
When I have come at last;
Nearer, to Thee.
We will be singing with you today Rick and praying for your family. God Bless you all.

I last saw Rick and Ellen at the installation of my brother as Presdient of Siena College. I could see that they were a devoted and valiant couple as they battled with his illness. Now my cousin Ellen has to carry on her role as a parent on her own but with his splendid example ever present for her.
