Obituary of Warren J. Wightman

Warren Jennings Wightman, 94, passed away in his Fairport, NY home Nov 1, 2016. Formerly of Eden, New York. Warren was born on November 1, 1922 in Buffalo, NY to parents Ward and Beulah (Jennings) Wightman. He attended Oberlin College in Ohio before being drafted into the Army in 1943. While in the Army he was a part of the 90th Division, Third Army and was part of the Normandy Invasion. Warren recently began writing his memoirs of his time in the military in a book series called, An Almost Perfect War and also received a Silver Star for his service.
After his military service, Warren earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Buffalo and an MS in Broadcast Media Communications from Syracuse University. He spent his professional career in television, journalism, and other creative ventures. He worked as a television producer and a columnist for Rochester-area newspapers as well. In 1953 Warren won a shared Peabody Award for his work on the television show "The Johns Hopkins Science Review".
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Beulah (Jennings) Wightman; brothers, Robert Wightman and Howard (Pearl) Wightman; and sister Helen (Edward) Vanghel. He is survived by nieces, nephews, and many friends. His creative spirit touched many lives and he will be greatly missed for his friendship and his wit, stories, riddles, and sketches.
Burial will take place on Saturday, November 12 at 10:30 am at Eden Evergreen Cemetery. Following will be a memorial service at the Fairport Public Library Community Room, 1 Fairport Village Landing, Fairport NY 14450. All are welcome to come and celebrate Warren's life with visitation from 2:30-5pm with remarks beginning at 3:30pm.
