Rosemary Meidel Smutz, age 87, died Sunday, November 20, 2016. She was born on May 27, 1929 in Buffalo, New York to Joseph and Marie Meidel. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy, Trocaire College, and Bryant and Stratton College where she met Wilbert “Will” Smutz of Eden, New York. They were married and had three sons, Michael M. (John Sullivan) Smutz, Patrick J. (Susie) Smutz, and Daniel D. (Michael James) Smutz. She also had two grandchildren, Grace F. (Richard Templin) Frances and Patrick (Marisela) Smutz, and three great-grandchildren. Rosemary was employed by M&T Bank and, later, the Eden Library. After retiring from the Library, she did volunteer work in many organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Eden Library, and Immaculate Conception Church. Rosemary and her husband were licensed pilots, she being the first female pilot licensed from Dunkirk Airport. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots. They traveled frequently throughout the United States and Europe and were avid hunters.
There will be no prior visitation. Funeral services will be private.
