Obituary of Nancy P. Springborn
Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nancy P. Springborn (Nee Pitman) 77 of Eden, NY, died Monday, August 9, 2010 in her home with her family by her side. She was born July 4, 1933 in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada to Arthur and Margaret Pitman. From a large family of nine brothers and sisters, Nancy gained her American citizenship in 1952 so she could join the United States Air Force where she served two years teaching camera repair and aerial photography.
In 1963 she met and married Earl Springborn, Jr. After meeting on a blind date, they quickly became engaged and married on Halloween that same year. Nancy and Earl had three children - Debra, Earl III, and Kathleen - where, after living in Boston, NY and Portville, NY moved to Eden. Known as the "Lunch Lady," Nancy worked in the cafeterias of the Eden Middle and High schools, following her children through the grades. Always friendly and caring, Nancy welcomed her children's and grandchildren's friends into her home, and her house was where all the neighborhood kids played.
After her children were out of school, Nancy worked as a home health care aide, school bus aide, and as a bookkeeper/dispatcher for a local cab company. As the local "Pie Lady," she baked for many area restaurants and private parties. She was drawn to helping care for people and dutifully kept in touch with her many friends and family.
When her husband died in 1992, she surrounded herself with family and, as always, made each Christmas and birthday an event. The happiness and well being of her family was most important to her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by all those she leaves behind. She is survived by her son and daughters - Earl (Bonnie) Springborn III, Debra (John Wrobel) Peiffer, and Kathleen (Donald) Nagle - four grandchildren - James (Danyelle) Peiffer, Kyle and Alyssa Nagle, and Joli Springborn - and two great grandchildren - Riley and Lailey Peiffer.
Friends may visit on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 9:00 at the Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 W. Church St. Eden, NY.
