Obituary of Sandra Smythe
Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sandra Smythe, 45, of Eden, NY died Monday December 27, 2010 at her home after a long illness.
Sandra grew up as a quiet girl, with 2 older sisters and her Mom looking out for her. Although an urban Kenmore girl, her fondest memories and most cherished times were summers spent on her Aunt and Uncle's Morgan horse farm in St. Mary's PA.
Sandra was a top notch varsity tennis player in high school and even won an athletic scholarship to play tennis, but decided to focus her attention on her academics instead, having received degrees in both mathematics and computer science.
Sandy embarked on a very productive career, first as a systems analyst, then a software engineer and finally as a computer programmer, which she not only loved, but accelerated in, becoming the top lead programmer in performance and credentialing. Sandy actually had her own business and worked in the capacity of a computer programmer for over 12 years as a private consultant.
When it came time for a family, Sandy was able to balance both career and work, opting to be there for her children all throughout their childhood years, while working evenings and nights, in her own consulting business, so as not to interfere with family time. Sandy always thought it of high importance to be a well balanced role model for her beautiful daughter, Cassandra.
Throughout this entire time, Sandy kept her love of horses and horseback riding; thus the country setting and small farm in Eden. Her horses and her flower gardens were her main recreative joys, both of which she loved to engage in passionately.
Most of all, Sandy was a phenomenal Mother, always so kind and caring, empathetic and warm, gentle and giving.
She also balanced Mark in everyway, being his opposite, completing him wholly and entirely. Their love was unwavering, founded in truth and honesty, warmth and adoration. Sandra and Mark were happily married for over 23 years. It was indeed a "true love story".
Besides her husband Mark and daughter Cassandra, Sandy is survived by her son Alexander and her sister Patricia Vorpahl.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Eden. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Sandy's honor to Hospice Foundation of WNY Inc. PO Box 590, Buffalo, NY 14240
Arrangements have been entrusted to Laing FUneral Home Inc. 2724 W> Church St. Eden, NY
