Pete Bowers posted a condolence
Water-filled boots from ice stomping on the 18 mile creek, campfires, pilot lights on the furnace, weddings, camping trips, aluminum foil on the AM radio antenna listening to WKBW, firm handshakes, a warm hug or two, IGB gangs, marlboro's and genny's, rosted corn under burlap, model cars and tanks, and all the talks only brothers can share. Pictures may fade, and places may change, but memories are etched in the mind forever. I thank God for having you as my big brother Fran. We will miss you and your wisdom. We will carry on and protect those left behind.
By God's Grace,
Pete & Linda

Where do I begin? As I sit here in tears looking at Fran's picture, I can't help but smile because I wonder who caught him for this, he hated having his picture taken. Older by ten years, I did not spend as much time with Fran as I did with Pete, Mary, Deb and Jimmy, when I was growing up. I do remember, Jim and I slept in the same bedroom with Fran and I was responsible for the distruction of his model airplanes, I am so sorry. Fran was no doubt the apple of our father's eye, as he followed in his footsteps and joined the National Guard. Fran lived and breathed the Guard when he was in and even after he retired. We were always thankful for Fran's training when it came to bonfire time. I remeber being an alter boy at Fran & Marilyn's wedding, we both had a few laughs during that ceremony, Dad didn't like it too much though. Fran was always one to rally the family for for a quick get-together, sometimes unannounced at one of our houses. Fran was not one to show his emotions a lot but I know he was always laughing inside and yes, he loved all of his family to no end. I will miss you and my memories will be talked about and passed on at many of parties and get-togethers for years to come. I never said it enough, thank you for being my big brother and I love you!! Mike

Our family consisted of two five-member groups and with Fran's passing I remain alone in the center of a photo taken many years ago in Hamburg. May these four angels watch over, guide and protect us remaining six.
Fran was not a hugger but I returned home this Christmas to tell my husband that Fran did in fact give a genuine me hug while in Eden. I will always cherish that last enbrace.
Fran was destented to be in the Army. As far back as I can remember he was always playing with plastic Army men, building model jeeps and tanks, and awaiting Dad's return from summer camp so he could get some of those delicious C-rations. While he never experienced military combat he faced his personal battles with honor and without complaint.
You've shed your armor Fran and have been accepted into God's home. May you find eternal peace and give mom, dad, Dolor, Barb, Paul and Bailey Rose big hugs for me.
Love and God Bless,
Joan

My dad was Uncle Gene to Fran and all of his brotehrs and sisters. Our family spent many happy times at Fran's parents' house. Fran's parents, Fran Sr. and Mary, brought all of their family up to Plattsburgh to visit me when I was in the Jesuit seminary there. Our lives led us many miles apart but my dad's "little" brotgher and his wonderful family have always been favorites of my past. I last saw dear Fran and his sister Joan at my brother Gene's wake nearly 2 years ago.

Thank you so much, for so many things. You were there for me in so many ways, some of which you may not have known, during many of my malleable years. I will always remember our camp fires and sleepovers on Hemlock Road, time spent in the valley as member of your family with Marilyn and the kids and so many other memories. Thank you for the honor and opportunity to be a big brother to your children and godfather to your son. I know that was not a casual decision and I’m glad you chose me. Thank you for the countless planned and unplanned get togethers that allowed us to grow as a family and build this wonderful wealth of memories that we all have. In my heart and soul you will be part of my 50th celebration just as you had planned. I will miss you as I miss Mom, Dad, Paul, Dolores and Barb. Please give them a hug for me when you see them. God bless you Fran, and the rest of our entire family.

Marilyn, Mary and all the rest of Fran's family I am so sorry for your loss.
When Fran worked with us at H&K I always enjoyed talking to him "out back." Those conversations would run quite the spectrum and sometimes we'd get into that whole "National Guard vs Air Force" thing just for fun. Ed and I were shocked to hear of his death today when we returned from California and we feel bad about not coming to the wake or service.
Our prayers are with you all and we have all lost a special person.

As being the first in-law to join the Bowers family I have fond memories of a young boy growing up in the valley entering into his teenage years. Fran was always on the quiet side but when you got to know him he was very knowledgeable about different topics and issues. Fran enjoyed the Guard very much, just like his Father did. I had the honor to severe in the same unit as Fran and his Father. I didn't have a choice, Fran's father said that if I wanted to merry his daughter I had to join the Guard. (Family joke) Fran I will miss our talks at the family gatherings and our friendship threw the years. I fell so blessed to be a part of this wonderful family. God Bless You

I only recently found out about Fran's passing. He was a dear friend of mine at ECHS. He was always kind. We went to prom together. I was so looking forward to seeing him at the 45th Reunion this summer and meeting his family. It is a huge loss. I will remember him as the handsome man who was always smiling. I am so sorry for his family's loss. Rest in peace Fran.
