Obituary of Richard C. Staby

Richard "Dick" ,77 , a lifelong resident of Eden, NY, was born in Buffalo, NY to Carl and Margret Staby. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Behrens Staby, two daughters, Kristen (Christopher) Rembold; Lisa (Michael) Rakiecki; a son, Scott R. Staby (Amy); 11 grandchildren, a sister Barbara Staby McDonnell a niece and 3 nephews. He graduated from Eden Central High School in 1951 as president of his class. In 1955 he received his BS in business administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While there he was president of Theta Chi fraternity. After graduation he was drafted into the US Army and was assigned to duty for two years in Kitzingen, West Germany. When he returned home he began his business career as a buyer and merchandise manager at the Wm Hengerer Co., continuing on to Hens & Kelly, and lastly Twin Fair. Further building on his Eden roots he and his wife brought the Eden Dairy Queen which he operated for 18 years retiring in 1999. Dick had a lifelong passion and pride for supporting his hometown of Eden NY. He was a member of the Eden Chamber of Commerce serving as president in the in mid 1980's. He also served on the Eden School Board from 1980-1986 and based on this was able to hand his son Scott and the graduating class of 1985 their diplomas. For many years, he enjoyed fishing on Lady Evelyn Lake in the fall with his Eden friends. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, never missing a game and never failing to believe that they were going to win the Super Bowl. In his later years he enjoyed attending the sporting events and concerts of all his grandchildren.
Family invite friends to call at the Laing Funeral Home Inc 2724 W. Church St. Eden, NY on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:00AM at Immaculate Conception Church, Eden, NY
A full military burial will take place following Mass at the Eden Evergreen Cemetery.
