Gary B. Stranges, age 85, of Eden, New York died September 21, 2024.

Gary was born on November 17, 1938, in Lockport, New York. He was a son of the late Nicholas Stranges and Elsie Secord. Gary graduated from Lockport Senior Highschool in 1956. He graduated with a Bachelor of arts in history in 1960 from Syracuse University.

Gary worked for several newspapers throughout New York State.

From 1969 until his retirement in 2004 Gary worked for The Buffalo News in Buffalo, New York. While working for The Buffalo News Gary worked on general assignments and was an education beat reporter. He covered public and private education in Western New York. He was the Copy editor and assistant chief copy editor from 1976-2004. He edited news stories and regularly oversaw the copy desk. He also wrote occasional commentaries on education and society.

Gary was elected as a member of the Eden Board of Education from 1987-1990.

He volunteered for International Institute in Buffalo, New York, teaching English as a second language, as well as volunteering for Literacy Buffalo Niagara.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Susan J. (Bartles) Stranges, his children; Sarah (William) Swint and Peter (Sheryl Stoeck) Stranges. His grandchildren, Evan and Hayley Swint and Gabriel Stranges, siblings, Sharon (late Bill) Strassel and Wayne (Suzanne) Secord also survive him. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be held Oct 13th from 2-4pm at the Laing Funeral Home Inc 2724 W. Church St. Eden.
