To Don's family;
I cannot tell you I know how you feel and I will not tell you your pain will go away. Trust that you will be comforted. Trust that the passage of time will ease your pain. For now embrace the grief, cherish the memory of Don, remember the laughter and continue to love each other.

Its been a fun and interesting 28 years since I met Don.
Shortly after marrying Linda, Don approached me and said that I owed him $15.00 I didn't remember ever borrowing any money, so I asked why? He told me he paid for my membership to the Eden Jaycees. I paid up. That's how Don signed up volunteers back then. Every year after whenever Don said I owed him money I just paid up.
Once he asked me to sub on his bowling team just for a night. Ten years later I was still on the team.
He wasn't just my bother in law, he was my bother & friend.
My on personal comfort is I know he is out scouting some new golf courses and one day we will all be golfing, laughing and having a great time together again.

I worked with Don on an Update presentation once. That was the only association of our careers since we were in different regions. He was an amazing man and my great regret is that I am not anything like him. He was a man who unfortunately passed prematurely but I believe lived life to the fullest while alive. God Bless him!

Ashley,
I want you to know what a great person your Dad was. He brought more joy and happiness to more people in his shortened life than any one I know. Eden was lucky. I had the pleasure to work with him on many projests dating back to 1974. He was truly a community minded person. As he said a couple of weeks ago, "I always wanted to make all the projects and fundraisers fun for those who volunteered,as well as those who benefited from them. May you be comforted and inspired by the legacy he left behind.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of Don's family.

Don devoted his life to his daughter, family & community with such passion & joy. My fondest memory of Don was anxiously awaiting his arrival @ the winterfest dances...to see his face light up. He would always say "you girls did it again!" But Don was the one who made the winterfest possible! Thank you, Don, for giving so many of us such great times & memories.

I met my friend Don in 1988. We became golf partners in the American Legion League for the next 20 years. Don & I became Board members & chairman of the Eden Corn Festival for many years after that. Golf tournaments, Winterfest, Legion activities, Chamber stuff - it never stopped. One thing for sure - if you had what Don thought was a good idea - next thing you knew you were a co-chairman! Don dedicated his life organizing events for others to enjoy. He was an awesome man, a true friend and at times, like a brother to me. THE ULTIMATE VOLUNTEER!!! I find comfort through my faith - that I will see my friend again. No bag lines, no slow play, no rain outs. The Eden community has a gaping whole in it with Don's passing. I think all of us who knew Don have a piece of our heart missing today! Ashley, you were the apple of his eye!!!God Bless you and the entire Greuschow family. See you all soon.

To Ashely & Family,
I only got to spend time with Don at the NYSDAM updates but I will always remember his kindness and his sense of fun. He always made me feel welcome & a part of the coversation and I will miss him alot. There are no words of comfort when you lose a loved one (parent/sibling/friend) but , I am a great believer that if you hold onto memories of your loved one that person is never really gone, their spirit will be with you forever & watch over you. I heard that Don wanted to play one more round of golf & take one more swim and I believe he will get that opportunity in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you & I wish you comfort & healing in the days, months & years ahead.

I remember back when my family and I lived here for a brief time, we came home one day and found a note. There was a block of cheese sitting on our doorstep and on it was this note that said,"There is a mouse in your house!" with a mouse drawn on it. Don was always looking out for his family. Ever since I came into the Greuschow family, Don would always make me feel welcome with a firm handshake and a hearty hello. We will miss you greatly, but you will forever be in our hearts, minds, and prayers. I am so proud to have been your brother-in-law and I am looking forward to seeing you again.

It's always difficult to lose a loved one but especially when they are taken too soon. The only comfort is to know that now he is at peace.

To my brother Don; I will miss you more than you will ever know. You made me proud to come back to the town of Eden. Everyone would look at me and say, you look like Don’s brother, and it made me smile. I have known presidents and world leaders in my life and they did not hold a candle to how important they were to me. You made a new meaning for me to be called brother. I will miss finishing all those projects that we started together, and will look forward to finishing them with my son and tell what you and I talked about. I will try to get back in the game of golf and try to uphold the name of Greuschow in the town of Eden.

“I Saw a Man
I saw a man who smiled and the world smiled with him
I saw a man who was confused and withdrawn for six months
I saw a man who reached out to a brother that he never had before
I saw a man who was loved by people I did not even know and now love
I saw a man who lived life to the fullest and I learned to listen to
I saw a man who was brought to his knees by a terrible disease called cancer
I saw a man who I told that he was a better man than I was at how he accepted all this and he said you will never know how much pain as he held my hand
I saw who when told there was nothing else to do reached out to the Lord
I saw a man who reached out for help and was raised back up by the Lord
I saw a man loved a body massage and humbled me to give it
I saw a man who loved family and friends right to the very end
I saw a man who will forever call my Brother
