Obituary of Earl W. Henry

Earl W. Henry, 90, a life long Eden Valley produce farmer, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010. He was born the son of Walter D. and Hilda A. (Agle) Henry. Mr. Henry was a graduate of Hamburg High School in 1938. He then went on to graduate from Cornell College of Agriculture in 1940. Mr. Henry was Co-Owner of W.D. Henry & Sons along with his brothers, Harold and Walter Henry for 45years, retiring in 1985. He was also one of the original founder of the Eden Valley Growers, where he served on the board of directors. Mr. Henry also served on the board of directors of the Agricultural Division of Cornell Cooperative Extension. He was a past member of the Eden Fire Department from 1944-1954. He served as past president and Elder of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Eden. He was Director Emeritus of Erie County Agricultural Society, where he served as a board member from 1973-2004, and president of the board 1980 and 1981. In his retirement he was still an active farmer growing and selling perennials and participating in the Hamburg Farmers Market. He drove for Meals on Wheels in Eden for many years. Survived by a son, David (Cindy). Henry of Eden, a daughter, Katherine Henry of Eden, a brother Walter (Ruth) Henry of Eden. Also survived by two grandsons, Andrew and Nathan Henry both of Eden and a former wife, Joanne L. Henry also of Eden. He is predeceased by his brother, Harold (Alice) and sister Bernice (Edwin) Fitchett Family invites friends to call at the Laing Funeral Home Inc. 2724 W. Church St. Eden on Saturday, January 1, 2011 from 7-9PM and then again Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 am in St. Pauls Lutheran Church 3487 North Boston Rd.
